Operations Plan for Distribution System of Major Metropolitan Area
Client: San Francisco Public Utilities Commission
SFPUC's City Distribution Division (CDD) stores, distributes, and delivers water to San Francisco. It also structurally maintains the water distribution system within the City, having responsibility for 11 reservoirs, 18 pumping stations, and a network of approximately 1,250 miles of pipelines and 12,000 water valves. CDD also operates the drinking water system on Treasure Island. On average, CDD delivers approximately 80 million gallons of water a day to nearly 770,000 people within San Francisco.
WRE participated in the preparation of a new Operations Plan for CDD. The Plan provides clear directions to all levels of staff for routine and emergency activities. WRE engineers worked closely with CDD managers to make sure the procedures in the Plan reflect actual field conditions and constraints.
