Client: ITT Fluid Technology, A-C Pump

ITT Fluid Technology Corporation (ITT) provided vertical pumps to the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority of Bangkok for their Tha Chin Pump Station. The pumping system exhibited apparent cavitation noises and air accumulation in the discharge lines. Surface vortices were observed in the sumps when the pumps were operated with a full open discharge valve.

WRE conducted a hydraulic model study of the Tha Chin Pump Station to resolve the observed operating problems. Simple and economical structural modifications were designed for introduction into the pump station's wet well. The modifications eliminated hydraulic deficiencies and improved overall pump station performance.
