NASA AMES CROSS-CONNECTION CONTROL State and local regulations establish the applicable regulatory framework that applies to facilities within NASA Ames. State requirements under California Code of Regulations Title 17 require NASA Ames to implement a cross-connection control program. NASA Ames is also required to comply with the regulations of the California Department of Public Health Services and the United States Public Health Service. WRE was asked to participate in the evaluation of cross-connections and potential backflow hazards at NASA Ames. A water resources specialist from WRE directed the field survey, which included an evaluation of water uses at each location, a visual inspection of above-surface potable water piping and plumbing arrangements, and the review, where necessary, of relevant construction drawings. The survey also included the compilation of data on existing backflow prevention devices and an assessment of their adequacy based upon the way they were installed and the level of protection required at each location. |
