KUOSHENG POWER PLANT Client: ITT Fluid Technology, A-C Pump The two reactors at the Kuosheng Nuclear Power Plant in northern Taiwan have been delivering electric power since the early 1980s. In 2001 ITT Fluid Technology retained WRE to evaluate changes in hydraulic performance due to the proposed replacement of screens at the plant’s circulating water pump house. The existing through-flow traveling water screens at the circulating water pump house were to be replaced with "center-flow" or "dual-flow" screens. Structural modifications introduced by the center/dual-flow screens were likely to alter flow patterns within the sumps and potentially affect pump performance. WRE performed a model study to compare the hydraulic performance of the sump under two different configurations, each mandated by a type of screen. The model study was also used to develop structural modifications to the selected screen configuration that would optimize its hydraulic performance. |
